PRODUCTION OF NEWSPRINT
17 p.c. Increase Last Year
Production of newsprint in New Zealand in the year ended March 31 increased 17 oer cent, above the record level of the previous year, according to figures released by the Department of Statistics. The increase was 13.200 tons. Products to the value of £6.4m were exported in the 1960 calendar year.
Wood pulp production rose from 242.800 tons in 1959-60 to 261,400 tons in 1960-61, Consumption of wood pulp in New Zealand in 1960-61 was 200.200 tons, compared with 184.000 tons in 1959-60. This consumption comprised all the mechanical pulp produced and 60 per cent, of the chemical pulp.
