Increase In Sandal Production
The only "worth-while” increase in production by the footwear industry in New Zealand in 1959-60 was that of sandals, according io the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). The increase was from 1.033,000 pairs to 1,118.000 pairs. The volume of production fell by 4 per cent, in the year 1959-60 but the value of production by the industry increased from £9 221.000 in 1958- to £9,654,000 in 1959-
Imports of shoes decreased in 1958 and 1959, but the value of imports in 1960 increased to £445.000 from that of £311.000 the previous year
