STUDY IN U.S.
Possible Offer To N.Z. Man
(H Z Preu A»>oeiatton) ROTORUA. June 11. John Morrison, the Bay of Plenty Rugby captain, said yesterday that if a firm invitation to study physical education came from the University of California and Los Angeles, he would accept it Morrison was referring to a report that an invitation to study for a master’s degree in physical education at the university would soon be made by Jed Gardiner, a former Mount Albert Grammar School pupil. Gardiner, a New Zealandtrained teacher, is a member of the physical education faculty at the university. “I knew an invitation might- be coming up but I have heard nothing definite. I will certainly go If an Invitation is sent," Morrison said. Morrison said he thought Clive Spilsted, who managed the American boxers Eddie Cotton and Artie Dixon in their recent New Zealand visit had something to do with it. Spilsted and the boxers were the guests of. the Morrison family in Rotorua early in the year. Morrison said he thought the invitation might be connected with the Eisenhower people-to-people programme under which the boxers came to New Zealand. He did not know whether Rugby was played at the university but Spilsted was very keen on the game. Morrison said. A physical education teacher at Rotorua Boys’ High School since 1958, Morrison trained at the Auckland Teachers' Training College in 1054-55. Since leaving college he has taught at Rotokawa and Whakarewarewa primary schools. Single and aged 25. Morrison has been a member of the Bay of Plenty Rugby sides for several years. He plays at second five-eighths.
