MOSCOW, June 11
Mr Khrushchev said yesterday the Soviet Union “supports the just demand of the Indonesian Government for the reunion of West Irian (Dutch West New Guinea) with the homeland —the Republic of Indonesia.”
He made his comment while speaking at a reception for President Soekamo of Indonesia in Moscow, the official Soviet news agency. Tass. reported, according to the Associated Press. The account said: “Khrushchev saluted Dr. Soekamo and declared that the voice of the Indonesian Republic was the voice of a fighter
for peace—resolutely coming out against colonialism, against imperialism, in defence of his people who are striving for the liberation of that part of their territory which is occupied by Dutch colonialists. “Soekarno’s voice Is resounding throughout the world, is being heard by the peoples who are fighting for freedom and independence." Mr Khrushchev remarked that the friendship between the peoples of the Soviet Union and Indonesia was gaining in strength and scope with each passing year. “Soviet-Indonesian friendship rests on mutual respect, confidence and support,” the Soviet Prime Minister said. Mr Khrushchev "pointed out that the Soviet Union and Indonesia hold common views on many highly important international problems—general and complete disarmament, the liquidation of colonialism, and the struggle against imperialism,” Tass reported.
