PURSUIT OF CAR
Traffic Officer Badly Hurt
(NZ Press Association) HASTINGS, June 11. A traffic officer w’as seriously injured when riding a motor-cycle in pursuit of a car in Hastings last night. He is Mr John Spencer Kerr, aged 21, single, whose parents live in Eltham. About 6.30 p.m. Traffic Officer Kerr was travelling at a speed estimated at more than 60 miles an hour in Heretaunga street east chasing a car whose driver he suspected of an offence. A light truck came from Willowpark road between the car and the motor-cycle. Traffic Officer Kerr struck the truck and was thrown between 50ft and 60ft into a shop doorway. His crash helmet was split and he suffered a fractured skull. His condition tonight is reported to be critical.
