June 9 ; Greater activity was displayed on the Melbourne Stock Exchange this week, the market being at its busiest level for more than a month. ■ the stock exchange reported; today. Key issues were keenly sought and some favourable company announcements gave a good tone to trading. John Lysaght shares were listed and opened at 80s—a i 300 per cent, premium oni their par value. I.C.I.AJJ.Z. announced a I three-for-7 bonus. capita!is-l ing £76m. Johnell accepted; a £2.5m takeover from Fibre; Containers and Grocery and. General accepted Peters', take-over offer. Brick Industries have reported that they are revalu- j ing assets and will consider a : bonus issue. Tarax Enter N.B.W. Tarax recorded record sales for the half year and have entered the N.S.W. field by taking-over an aerated water business in that state. Rises easily outnumbered falls for the week and turnover was higher in all sections of the market. 1.C.1.A.N.Z gained 10s on the week tmd closed at 79s Colonial Sugar finished 30s higher at £B7 5s Commonwealth Industrial Gases were 2s dearer at £5 4s and Rothmans advanced 2s 3d to 97s Business Personal Mr J. B. Johnston, solicitor, of Auckland. has been appointed chairman of directors of the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Company. Ltd.: Challenge Phosphate Company. Ltd.; and Kiwi Fertiliser Company. Ltd., in place of the late Mr A. S Sutherland. Mr A. R. L. Wiltshire will retire from the boards of Gollin Holdings. Ltd., and Gollin and Company. Ltd., on July 3, 1961. Mr H. D. T. Williamson will become a director of both companies from July 3.
