Otway, aged 29, has angrily decided never to play Davis Cup tennis for his country again, according to the “Daily Mail.” He is at present playing in the northern championship in Manchester. He said: “1 would carry on if they would treat me as a human being and not just someone to call upon offhandedly when I was wanted for a match. “I have not had a direct communication from my association since last November, just occasional contact from Dennis Coombe, the New Zealand representative in London,” said Otway.
A Press Association message from Wellington said that Mr F. S. Ramson, chairman of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, gave this reply when the above cable was referred to him: "We have been unable to keep in direct touch with Otway because we have had no knowledge of his whereabouts. However, the association has an official representative in England (Mr Coombe) who carries all the authority of the association “Our representative was asked to locate Otway and ascertain whether he was
available to represent New ' Zealand in the Davis Cup competition. Mr Coombe replied that Otway was playing good tennis and would be available to the Davis Cup team for limited periods at the time of each Davis Cup tie. the reason being that he had a permanent partner “After joining the team for a week before .each. match Otway would continue on his own. “Since then we have worked always through our representative and we still do not know Otway’s address.
