CABOT IN DEMAND
Steeples At Ellerslie “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, June 9. I Stamina will be tried to the utmost in the McGregor Grant Steeplechase at Ellerslie tomorrow. The country at the best of times provides a searching test, which will be Particularly severe now that the ground has become very heavy. It is under such conditions that the wiry little stayer. Cabot, has shown some o 1 his best performances. Ail indications are that there will be another from him on this occasion. He will be trying lor his second win in the McGregor Grant Steeplechase. having taken the event in 1959. On Monday Cabot was one of the beaten horses behind Patrick Molloy in the Great Northern Steeplechase, his share of the stake being the £5OO for ' third. Thie time Cabot will be i meeting Patrick Molloy again, ias well as the runner-up in the ! Great Northern-Orelino I Another big item will be the York Handicap, run oyer a mile for £1250. Unless there is an unexpected spate of scratchings the number <rf will be 26. the safety limit at i the mile starting post. Many are fine winter gallopers in good form, so the betting is bound to take a wide range. The hardest to beat might be the Takanini mare Aire- ! phelia. which has 7-8. Craddock ' will have a chance, especially 'if the wet weather continues, and the prospects of On Dej mand. Beauzami and Phoenician are also being discussed. A good many of the beaten horses from the Great Northern Hurdles are engaged in the £l5OO Remuera Hurdles, two miles. Triple Count. Region and Big Chief, in particular, are interesting candidates and it seems likely that they will . dispute. the finish. The weather since Monday has been very wet and even if there is sudden improvement the going will be very heavy. Selections:— 11 a.m.—Tamaki Steeples: Dalrom. Te Awarere.
