“Step In Right Direction”
(N.2. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 9. The New Zealand Motor Trade Association had pressed for some time for an increase in the numbers of new vehicles, and felt that the decision announced by the Minister was a step in the right direction, but did not go far enough in the number of cars to come in. said the Dominion president of the association (Mr F. N Gibbons' today. “However, provided that the Government does increase the numbers as more funds become available then we feel that the general motoring publie will have some opportunity of purchasing new vehicles which they have not at present,” said Mr Gibbons. "The shortage is such that we do not feel that this in-
crease is going to help very much as rar as the man in the street is concerned. The demand is far greater than the proposed 3600 new cars Will satisfy,” he said. Three important points stemmed from the operation of so many old vehicles. First was the road danger so created. The second was the high cost of maintenance, and the third was the 100 great demand which undue maintenance work made upon the country's limited labour force. *
