SHIPPING DISPUTE
Meeting Next Week (NJZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 9. The management of Union Steam Ship Company will receive a deputation from the New Zealand Merchant Service Guild on Thursday in an effort to solve the dispute between them. Deck officers are refusing to take to sea company ships that have no third officers. To counter this the company is transferring officers as they arrive in port to allow other ships to put to sea. Both the company spokesman and the guild spokesman agreed today that the matter appeared to have reached a stalemate till Thursday’s meeting. Meanwhile, the company is managing to keep its ships moving to schedule, though it is believed that the transfer policy is causing some dissatisfaction among deck officers.
