29th Birthday This Month The Greendale Country Women’s Institute celebrated its twenty-ninth birthday this month, and the president (Mrs C. D. Russell) welcomed members of Coalgate, Glentunnel. Kirwee and Sheffield institutes, and also members of sister organisations. Two of the members more than 80 years old, Mesdames C. H. Adams and T. Gough, were presented with sprays. Mrs Adams cut the birthday cake. The Winifred Russell memorial trophy for handcraft (1960-61) was presented to Mrs H. B. Shipley, and the prize for cut flowers to Mrs C. W. Russell. The programme for the afternoon included sketches by Mesdames R Naughton and G. Shipley, and a monologue by Mrs N. Bull. Mrs Schloss, of Cheviot, played violin solos, and piano solos were played by Mrs J. Crdge. The programme ended with community singing.
