Otway, of New Zealand, was eliminated from the northern tennis tournament singles at Manchester today when he was beaten in his second match by the South African. J. Mayers. 8-6. 6-2. 6-3 Otway played against Mayers only three hours and a half after an exhausting two hour fight with a Lancashire player. D Shaw. At lunch-time, after being within two points of defeat. Otway inched to a 7-5. 6-2. 9-7 victory over Shaw, a cotton mil! manager, unknown outside the north of England The New Zealander had flown from Snain. where he played in a Davis Cun tie. the day before. He was the holder of the northern title and was seeded second this year.
