FIRE SERVICE COUNCIL
Members Visit City Plans for the extension of Are brigade facilities and equipment in Christchurch were discussed when five members of the Fire Service Council from Wellington met members of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board yesterday. The council members flew to Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning and returned by air in the evening. The board members were Messrs S. S. Dean I chairman). H. R. Brown (secretary), M. Connelly and J. Roberts, and the Chief Fire Service Officer (Mr T. A. Varley). In the morning, the group visited station sites at Woolston and Lyttelton and in the afternoon inspected the new headquarters station in Kilmore street Seecer Team in Anekland. —The English soccer team arrived in Auckland yesterday to play New Zealand in the second test on Saturday, and Auckland next Wednesday. The Englishmen, due at Whenuapai at 1130 am., did not arrive until 5 pm having had to travel by bus to Palmerston North because ♦he Napier airport was closed.—(PA.)
