Japan Not Buying

Australia has lost its biggest barley customer, Japan, which till recently, bought up to 340.000 tens of Australian barley in a season: but China has saved Australia from a mammoth barley surplus. The loss of the Japanese market was revealed today by the genera! manager of the Australian Barlev Board 'Mr K J. Martini. Mr Martin said that Japan had not imported barley from any source for about 18 months He said this was the result of a Japanese drive to be as near self-supporting as possible. This had led to a big increase in Japanese barley production.
