Three Fined (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 28. Crew in some overseas ships were taking advantage of the big trade that seemed to exist for uncustomed goods, said Mr H. Rosen in the Magistrate’s Court. Auckland. on Friday afternoon. He was prosecuting three seamen from the Turakina on customs breaches. Mr Rosen told Mr A. A. Coates. S.M.. that smuggling uncustomed articles was veryprevalent in spite of repeated searches and seizures. The seamen, David John Lendrum, Eric Paul and Ronald Frank Ward, pleaded guilty to charges of making erroneous declarations under the Customs Act. Lendrum was fined £25 and Paul and Ward £75 each Immediate payment of the fines by Ward and Paul was ordered, in default. 80 days' gaol.
