Potato growers were themselves to blame for the shortage of potatoes, the president of the Victorian Retail Fruiterers’ and Greengrocers’ Association (Mr R D. White) said yesterday. He was commenting on the purchase of 4800 tone of New Zealand potatoes. Mr White accused the Potato Producers’ Co-opera-tive, Ltd., of being partly responsible for the shortage. Growers who belonged to the co-operative, and others outside it, were competing with each other to keep the supplies down and the prices up.
