Opening Ceremony At Lake Lyndon

“There is no ice skating lodge comparable to this one in the South Island,” said the president of the Canterbury Ice Skating Club <Mr A. M. Grafton* when the club’s new skating lodge at Lake Lyndon was officially opened before a large gathering of club members and supporters yesterday. “Today marks the fulfilment of our hopes since the time eight years ago when the building fund committee was started." said Mr Grafton. The building represented a tremendous amount of voluntary endeavour by a large section of club members, and the building, with accommodation for 24 men and women, was an asset to sport in Canterbury. Club members had given more than 2500 hours of voluntary help since March of last year to construct the hut. said Mr Grafton. One of the most outstanding contributions had been made by the vice-president of the club 'Mr J. Buchanan', who at the age of 81, had given more than 740 hours.
