VETERANS OF BOER WAR
Parade In City Tomorrow
About 50 Boer War veterans will hold a short parade at the corner of Colombo street and Armagh street tomorrow. The parade, which will start at 2 p.m., will commemorate the fiftyninth anniversary of the signing of the South African Peace Treaty. Wreaths will be laid at the statue of Queen Victoria in Victoria square, after which veterans will march to the R.S.A. rooms in Gloucester street.
, The South African Peace Treaty was signed in Pretoria on the night of May 31, 1902, by representatives of the British Government and those of the Boer Republic. Transvaal and Orange Free State. The signing of the treaty had been preceded by 17 days of discussion at Vereeniging. On May 31 this year the Union of South Africa will become a republic outside the Commonwealth.
There are more than 1100 Boer War veterans still alive in New Zealand, most of them in their eighties. As many as possible of those living in Christchurch will attend the parade tomorrow. At least one of the three Boer War nurses living in the city will attend.
