FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE
Familv Given Free Lodging A wooden house about five miles north of Kaikoura was destroyed by fire yesterday morning. The owner of the house. Mrs H Jewell, was taking her daughter Kaye and two other children to school when she heard fire engines. When she returned home she found the house gutted. In addition to personal belongings. cups which were to be awarded at a meeting of a local club tonight were destroyed by the fire. Mrs Jewell is the secretary of the club, and the cups had been stored at her house in preparation for the function Offers of assistance for Mrs Jewell and her daughter have been received from all over Kaikoura. The Adelphi Hotel. Kaikoura. is giving Mrs Jewell and her daughter free board and lodging until other arrangements can be made.
