Call For Asian Summit Talks (IVjrj’.A. .Reuter— Copyright) KARACHI, May 21. Pakistan and the United States proposed a summit meeting of heads of nations in Asia and the Pacific in a joint communique issued today by the United States
Vice-President (Mr Johnson) and President Ayub Khan of Pakistan. The communique said that Senator Johnson and President Ayub agreed that “the long-term security of the free world must be built on the foundations of progress, assuring a greater opportunity of a better life for people.” It also said that "they welcomed continued co-operation in regional collective security arrangements such as the Central Treaty Organisation and the South-east Asia Treaty Organisation.” Vice - President Johnson was asked at the press conference whether he realised the necessity for an early solution of the question of Kashmir, the State whose occupation by India is opposed by Pakistan. He replied that he had no authority to make any commitment on this subject but he would relay the views of President Ayub to President Kennedy and to the Secretary of State, Mr Rusk.
