POPULATION INCREASE
84.3 p.c. Rise In Halswell
Halswell county’s population lias increased by 84.3 per cent, since the 1958 census. according to a preliminary list of 1961 census results issued by the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). The population of Halswell is now 2864. In 1956 it was 1554. The counties of Westland and Oxford have both decreased in population. Westiland county now has a population of 4407, 130 fewer than in 1956, and the percentage difference is 2.9 per cent. Oxford county has lost 55 persons, a percentage difference of 3.4, and now has a population of 1582. In the borough of Hokitika the loss of population has been less. In the 1961 census the borough had a population of 3005, 27 fewer than in the 1956 census. The percentage difference is .9. licence: William Duncan Cross. £2.
