CHRISTENED ON SHIP
R.N. Aircraft Carrier
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) CAPE TOWN. Two Cape Town children, -six-year-old Jeremy and four-year-old Gillian -Fried, lander, were christened abroad the British aircraftcarrier. Victorious. The christening was the sequel to a meeting 17 years ago. In June, 1944, a young chaplain of the Royal Navy met a young woman in Cape Town. The woman secretly resolved that the man would one day baptise any children that she had. A few days ago the girl, now Mrs P. Friedlander, of Kenilworth met the Catholic chaplain of the Victorious, and mentioned to him the chaplain's name, the Rev. Basil Watson. “Basil Watson is the Anglican chaplain on this ship,” Mrs Friedlander was told. The couple met again and Mr Watson agreed to baptise the children. Permission was obtained and the ceremony took place on board Victorious.
Mrs Friedlander had plan, ned to visit Britain last year to try to find Mr Watson, but she was not able to go.
