* Colder weather this week , has turned housewives’ and shoppers’ thoughts to winter foods and grocers are finding , the demand for porridge oats i and soups in packets and i cans is increasing. Soup manufacturers are already under way with their winter sales promotion campaigns. ' Canned foods are also in demand and there are good i stocks of green beans and 1 green peas. Tomatoes may ' be short later this year because the canneries could not i get all they needed for can- ' ning. Saßdwteh Paste.—-Salisbury is extending its range of fish and meat pastes with a new flavour: sardine. A new small size is i also coming on to the market ' under the Salisbury label to • sell at Is 4d. The 3oz size Is is 9d. Shell Macaroni.—Timaru MUi- ' tng Company, makers of Dla- ! mend macaroni, is putting a shell macaroni on to the mar- ' ket. Packed in Boz bags the ' new macaroni is expected to be i is 4d. Oyster Soup.—J. Wattie Canneries are now canning oyster soup. Made from Bluff oysters the soup will sell for 2s 6d a 16oz can. Japanese Oysters. Tidal waves last year damaged oyster beds in Japan and now the new season’s crop has been harvested. Japanese Banners are quoting prices 15 per cent higher. Clothes Pegs.—Clothes pegs are dearer. The new price is 1C up at 3s 4d for packs of three dozen pegs. Blancmange,—Winsons have Increased the price of their blancmange powder. It is now Id dearer at Is 8d a pack. AmeHcan Rice. American rice has sold well in New Zealand during the last two or three years because its price appealed more to shoppers Now the price has risen and Australian rice has become cheaper. This should prove an advantage for the Australian product. Dried Peach Chips.—Quotations for dried peach chips have come from South Africa. This is a new line for the New Zealand market.
