MR C. R. SPACEMAN
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 18. The death has occurred in New York of Mr C. Roy Spackman, of Dunedin, after a motor accident. He was 73. Mr Spackman was widely known in New Zealand as a professional musician and particularly well known in Dunedin as organist at Knox Church and in musical circles generally. Born in Napier, Mr Spackman was educated at primary schools in Gisborne and Napier. He later attended the Wanganui Collegiate School. He learnt the violin and piano at an early age and later the organ and viola. Mr Spackman was also interested in sport and played senior cricket for 25 years, representing Hawke’s Bay on many occasions. He also represented that province at hockey. He had proposed to see the England-Australia cricket tests during his overseas tour.
