POLICE CHIEF PROMOTED
Supt. C. L. Spencer
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 18. The promotion of Superintendent C. L. Spencer, officer in charge of the Christchurch police district, to the rank of chief superintendent, was announced today by the Minister of Police <Mr Eyre). The promotion means that the three largest police districts «n New Zealand. Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, are now under the control of chief superintendents. During his 36 years’ service in the police force. Mr Spencer has been stationed at the Chatham Islands, Dunedin. Timaru, Wellington, and Auckland. Most of his service has been in the uniform branch, although he was in charge of the Wellington C. 1.8. for two years before being transferred to police headquarters in 1956. Before promotion to his present position at Christchurch, he was head of the Auckland C. 1.8
