Mr J. Shepherd Appointed
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 18. Mr J. Shepherd, of the External Affairs Department, has been appointed counsellor and deputy High Commissioner in Canberra, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) announced today. Recently Mr Shepherd has been head of the Economic Division of the department. Mr Shepherd, who graduated M.A. with first-class honours in economics at Victoria University College, served with the R.N Z.A.F during the war. He was second secretary in Canberra from 1951 to 1954 He served as first secretary in Singapore from 1955 to 1958. He has been a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly, to various S.E.A.T.O. conferences, and to Colombo Plan meetings.
