“Miss Canterbury”
Contest
Competitors in the “Miss Canterbury” section of the “Miss New Zealand International” contest were guests at an informal reception held last evening by the executive of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society.
They were received by the president of the branch (Mrs A. Rose) who thanked them for entering the contest. “By supporting the contest 'you will have helped the Plunket Society build a new Karitane Hospital, which we need so desperately,” Mrs Rose said.
Entrants in the competition are: Misses Carrol King. Margaret Munro. Frances Esplin, Lesley Nichols. Gabriella Tohill. Suzanne Prendergast, Jennifer Stringer. Susan Kellaway, Janice Norris and Shirley Heydon (all of Christchurch); Yvonne Meikle and Beverley Dyer (Rangiora); Lois Croy (Ashburton); Faye Cundall (Hornby), Judith Mitchell (Glentunnel) and Marie Smith (Fernside). The Paparua branch of the society will hold the finals of their competition for “Miss Paparua” at a concert tomorrow evening. The winner will compete in the “Miss Canterbury” contest to be held at the Civic Theatre next Tuesday evening. Finalists in the “Miss Papartia” contest are: Misses Claire Maunder (representing the Templeton sub-branch), Lois Goold (Russley subbranch), Marie Bailey (Wycola sub-branch), Fay Cundall (Islington subbranch', June Dossett and Jeannette Boocock (Hornby sub-branch).
The Kaiapoi branch of the society selected “Miss Kaiapoi" at s dance held recently, when the winner was Miss Judy Boyce (Amberley). There were eight entrants.
