Sir,—l see the county engineer said that it was well within the scope of the engineering staff to do the job of taking over the State highway from Akaroa to the Hill Top. The management of Akaroa County affairs is not a strong recommendation. I was unloading a truck of hay when one of the staff came and told me that a bridge was to be pulled up within an hour or an hour and a half if I wanted to get down the road. This was at 2 p.m. I would have thought the foreman or the engineer could have given the ratepayers a day or day and a half notice that the bridge was going to be repaired. Any one of the ratepayers Using the road could have had stock to go out, for all they knew.— Yours, etc.. JACK HAYWARD. Robinson's Bay,
