Hagley Park Cycle Track

Sir.—l wish to complain about the deplorable state of the Armagh street-Fen-dalton road cycle path in North Hagley Park. Thisi path is used by a great num-: ber of rate-paying citizens, j who deserve some considera-i tion. However, thanks to! the City Council, which ap-! pears to give more attention I to art-criticism and arguing: ; than listening to the people! of Christchurch, the track is more like an obstacle course ‘than anything else. In the imornings hundreds of school {children, riding two and three abreast, block' the way and hinder other cyclists. In the evenings great holes lin the surface prove danger:ous to cyclists and injurious to cycles. I suggest either ■that the path, which is only [four feet wide, be widened [to include the present un- • used pedestrian path and I that the holes be filled in. or that we get a new City I Council.—Yours, etc.. S.J.B. I I April 19. 1961. ‘[The city council director of reserves (Mr H. G. Gilpin)! i said: "The pot-holes are! being repaired and resealing! iof pathways, where neces-' sary, will be undertaken at a later date ”]
