Obituary MR J. LINKLATER

Mr Joseph Linklater, of Palmerston North, a wellknown figure in the farming industry, and a former member of Parliament from 1923 to 1936, died recently at the age of 86. Mr Linklater was a Boer War veteran. He farmed property at Milson. near Palmerston North, and at Pohangina and Colyton. He was a member of the board of the New Zealand Disabled Servicemen's Reestablishment League, and his homestead property at Milson was used after the war as a training farm for disabled servicemen. He served on many local bodies, and for his public service was awarded the ORE.

Highest Hut This week should see the completion of the highest hut in New Zealand after nearly three years of work—the Dome Hut. situated at 8600 ft near the crater lake on Mount Ruapehu. For the last three years, work has been done on the erection of the hut by National Park rangers, and members of ' mountain clubs. Work has been quickened up during the last fortnight by airdrops of vital equipment. The one- 1 room hut will contain food. ' but no bedding or fuel.
