INDOOR SPORTS STADIUM
Naming After Cr. W. J. Cowles The indoor sports stadium at Cuthbert’s Green will be officially known as the W. J. Cowles Stadium. The DeputyMayor (Mr H. P. Smith) made this announcement last evening at the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Linwood Rugby Union Football Club. Mr Cowles has been president of the club since 1945.
Mr Smith said, after consulting with the acting-chair-mSn of the City Council’s reserves committea (Cr. P. J. Skellerup), that there would be an official recommendation to the council that this name should be adopted. Cr. Cowles, as chairman of the reserves committee, sponsored and personally supervised the construction of the stadium.
