Hagley Park Trees
Sir.—l trust the planners of our city ■will not be sidetracked from their objective, which is to improve the Blenheim road exit. It appalls me to read the petty, ookev criticisms of nrogress which crop up whenever well-trained men pla>n improvements which will benefit out city for years to come One of your correspondents took a walk along the edge of the park to see the trees Did he count how many other walkers there were and how many cars drove past? If he does not own a car then his children will and also his grandchildren. This is 1961 and we are heading towards the year 2000. I would ask the Director of Parks how many trees, were removed in Christchurch last vear (not forest timber! and how many young trees were planted in our city. I love trees, but I also acknowledge progress.—Yours, etc., ACORN. March 20. 1961.
