SPARKLING PEARL
Success In Classic The champion New Sooth Wales filly. Sparkling Pearl, gained her sixth successive win when she beat the Victorian colt. Opal Chief, in the Sires’ Produce Stakes final at Harold Park last Friday. The crowd gave Sparkliilg Pearl the biggest ovation at ! Harold Park since Caduceus ‘ won the Inter-Dominion 'Championship Grand Final at I the track last season. Sparkling Pearl paced the 11 furlongs and three-quarters lat a mile rate of 2min [6 3-5 sec. one-fifth of a ‘ second faster than the previous record held by the ; Oamaru pacer. Sun Chief. ; Sparkling Pearl raced past Opal Chief early in the run I home, but she raced greenly I and had to be shaken up to ; beat Opal Chief by a head, I with the former New Zealand I colt, Don Ngaree, a length | and a half back third. Opal Chief started favourj ite at 10 to 9 on. with Spark- | ling Pearl at even money, j Don Ngaree was equal third I favourite at 33 to 1. J Sparkling Pearl, which is raced by her breeder, Mrs | M. Smith, is trained by L. C. Chant. She is by Sparkling Raid from Pearl Globe, by Van Ayr from a champion trotting mare in White Globe, by Globe Derby. White Globe was brought to New Zealand by G. B. Noble and before being returned to Australia she left several foals, including Roydon Derby, the dam of Beau Clair, Pierette, and others.
