Soccer NEW TROPHY PRESENTED
Gesture By 'Referees
The Canterbury Referees’ Association wiU present a new trophy to the Canterbury Footoall Association for competition this season. This was announced at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Football Association last evening. I The trophy, to be known as the Canterbury Referees’ Jubilee Trophy, is award’d in commemoration of the coming jubilee of the referees 0 association. It will be open to the first team from each club in the competitions, and points will be given for punctuality, dress, equipment and sportsmanship. Points will be allocated by referees in each inter-club match up to the end of August. A request from the junior management committee for the playing of some of its matches at English Park was put forward by Mr R. Meadowcroft, delegate from that committee to the management committee. He asked for a 1 p.m. match every fourth Saturday as an encouragement to the boys in those teams.
‘Boys tend to lose interest in the game at the age of 16 or 17. between leaving school and appearing in the open grades." said Mr A Fraser. "This would ,be an incentive to them to retain their interest.”
The request was referred to the match committee.
Appointments were made as follows:
Chairman, Mr J. Smith: vicechairman, Mr W. W. Carruthers; assistant secretary. Mr Carruthers; delegates to N ZF.A.. Messrs Smith and E H. Williams; match committee. Messrs T. C. Gottermeyer, V. Ferris and F. S. Neate; classification committee. Messrs R. van de Monde. N. R. Dixon, and S. Ovenden; finance and emergency committee, Messrs Smith. Carruthers and Williams; postponement committee, Messrs Smith and A. Fraser; publicity committee, Messrs Fraser R. Storer and Gottermeyer; judicial committee. Messrs Smith, Williams, Carruthers. Dixon. Storer and van de Monde* materials committee. Messrs R" Meadowcroft, Neate and Ovenden; grounds committee. the management committee.
