EWE FAIR AT STUDHOLME

(From Our Own Reporter) WAIMATE, March 16. Generally satisfactory prices were paid for good sheep at the Studholme Junction adult ewe fair, but a somewhat erratic demand prevailed, factors being the uneven mouths of sheep in a number of pens, and a small bench of buyers. As a result, values overall declined by about 5s on rates ruling at the Waihao Forks fair last week. The entry totalled about 6000 sheep. Top price of the sale of 71s was paid for an outstanding pen of 50. four, six and eight-tooth Romney ewes, but this price stood out ahead of the general range of values. The range of prices was:— Top pre-lamb shorn Romney ewes, 52s to 58s: medium, 43s to 475: fat and forward. 35s to 38s. Later shorn ewes: extra good, four years, to 535: good four and five years. 45s to 48s: medium. 38s to 42s 6d: mediocre. 30s to 365. Halfbred ewes. 28s to 395. State Borrowing.— Net Government indebtedness to the Reserve Bank fell £o.Bm in February, but the February figure of £ 115.8 m is still £ 13.7 m above the comparable 1960 figure. Overdrafts Up.— Advances and discounts by trading banks in New Zealand totalled £ 198.1 m on March I. This total compares with £196 8m on February 22 and £ 194.9 m on February 1 this year and £ 164.0 m in early March last year. Ivon Watkins.— lvon Watkins, Ltd., has alloted 13.416 fully paid 5s A ordinary shares at a premium of 3s 9d each. Tenth Par Issue.— Tooth and Co.. Ltd., is making a par issue of shares in the ratio of one for six held on July 5.
