BOWLS SINGLES AND COLTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The last champion of champions tournaments of the Christchurch Bowling Centre were begun on Saturday. The singles were played on the Fendalton green, and the colts at St. Albans. Both the singles and the colts were narrowed down to four after four games had been decided, and the semifinals and final will be played on the Christchurch green next Saturday. There were one or two surprises during the day the greatest being the defeat of M. K. Boon < Christchurch > by T. Coup (Kaiapoi). Coup played grand bowls to beat this prominent Christchurch player 16-11 in the first round. C. L. Spearman went down 20-15 to J. Jones (Rangiora). Some excellent bowling was seen by the colts in their games. It was very noticable that the players who kept to the draw were the most successful.
