SMALL BORE TITLE
Good Win By I. V. Newton
* iNZ Press Association > INVERCARGILL, Mar. 19 An Invercargill rifleman. I. V Newton, won the New Zealand outdoor smallbore rifle shooting championship at Awarua yesterday. He handled the blustery conditions excellently. and shooting consistently in all four matches over 50 and 100 yards, beat his nearest rival, the leading woman rifle shooter, Mrs Cora Matheson. Dunedin, by four points. Conditions could hardly have been worse. Although the range was largely sheltered, the blustery wind, which frequently changed direction, and persistent rain showers made shooting difficult. Nevertheless, in spite of the conditions, scoring was good. Competitors who scored more than 360 over the four matches, with their scores (two scores at 50 yards first, two at 100 yards, and then aggregate) were: I. V. Newton (Kiwi, Invercargill), 95.3, 96.3, 95.2, 91.2 377.10; Mrs C. Matheson (Dunedin). 95.3, 95,3, 91.1, 92.2—373.9; J A. Scott (Pareora). 96.0, 93.3, 92.2, 90.1—369.5; F. W.
