Women’s Cricket Entertaining Batting By Australians At Dunedin

DUNEDIN. March 19. The Australians provided spectators with an exhibition I of bright batting in vivid contrast to the effort of the New Zealanders on the first day when the women’s cricket test continued at Carisbrook on Saturday. At the end of the second day Australia had scored 188 runs for the loss of nine wickets in reply to New Zealand's 241 for eight declared. A gale-force wind which [persisted throughout the day and occasional rain made conditions very unpleasant for the players. With one wicket intact the Australians are 53 runs in arrears, but the rate of scoring and the manner in which the runs were scored provided an afternoon of
delightful batting. In comparison with New Zealand’s all-day marathon on Friday when only 168 runs were scored, the Australians by bright and pleasing batting scored 188 runs in two hours less and from 60 fewer overs. B. Thorner was clearly the best of New Zealand's early bowlers. She bowled with vigour but did not always receive just support from the New Zealand fielding which was not good.
