(bow ZooMaa Proas Rraoromwu

AUCKLAND, Feb. 20. Boys from the adventure camp on Motutapu Island scrambled over rugged scoria

and through dense bush on Rangitoto yesterday to make themselves fit for their coming expedition to Great Barrier Island. * Their antagonists were the heat, the terrain, which tore clothes and boots, and, in some cases, themselves. At the end of the day some of the boys were talking ot leaving the camp. Others said that the day had not- been too difficult, and yet others claimed that it had been a challenge they were glad tc meet. When the boys left Motutapu to go rock-climbing at Boulder Bay, Rangitoto, on Saturday, they were allowed to take a pint of water each on to the waterless island. They were not told by instructors they they would not get any more water until their second day on Rangitoto was finished. It was midday yesterday before they found out The truck which brought their lunch to the agreed rendezvous had no water aboard—only sandwiches and apples. Climb To Summit Protests were given no time to grow. As soon as the boys had finished eating, they were instructed to climb to the

summit of Rangitoto, and from there work their way to some caves where further instructions would be given. From the caves they were given orders to travel back towards the rood over the rough scoria, using the comPeas as a guide. Each group *as given a fixed point M to emerge thi ‘ t ?
