MISSION IN ASIA
Dairy Head’s Visit
Dairy projects financed by New Zealand under the Colombo Plan in South and South-east Asia are to be inspected by Mr H. A. Foy, director of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture, who left Wellington early this month. Mr Foy will also discuss in the United Kingdom and the United States problems of quality and marketing of New Zealand’s dairy products.
He will be overseas about six weeks, of which a week will be spent in the United Kingdom, two to three days in the United States, and the remainder of the time in Asian countries. Most of the Colombo Plan projects to be inspected by Mr Foy are in India, the most important of which is the Delhi milk scheme, to which New Zealand has contributed £BOO,OOO and provided four technical advisers. Mr Foy will also assess on behalf of the New Zealand Government a request by Ceylon for further capital aid to the Colombo milk'scheme.
In the United Kingdom Mr Foy will study mainly the marketing of rindless cheese, of which New Zealand is now exporting about 15,000 tons, mostly to the United Kingdom. First-hand knowledge from Mr Foy’s visits is ex-
pected to lead to recommendations to both the dairy industry and the Department of Agriculture on standards of manufacture of this cheese.
