Increase In Stakes

Increases tn stake money and alterations to several events have been announced by the Waimate Racing Club for its annual meeting on May 27.

No change has been made to the Waimate Cup, but the stake for the President’s Handicap, the race for open class sprinters, has been increased to £425, including a £25 trophy given by the president.

The Waitangi Champion Hack Handicap has been increased from a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half. It will carry a gold cup valued at £lOO and will be worth £350.

Publicans in the district have signified willingness to give a trophy worth £5O. This has been allocated to the Hook Hack Handicap, which has been renamed the Waimate County Publicans’ Handicap. Two members of the committee have given £55 as a cash prize for the trainer gaining most points at the meeting, and the club has also decided to operate an oncourse double.
