Voluntary Unionism
Sir. —I wgs amazed to read in this morning's issue the statement by Mr K. McL. Baxter that, should compulsory unionism be abolished in New Zealand, the final result (in effect) would be stoppages of work throughout the world. Mr. Walsh lately forecast extensive unemployment'in June and it appears that the way to bring that state about is to hold up freezing works, etc., in order that primary produce may not earn overseas exchange with which to purchase raw materials for factory workers. If the Federation of Labour is to rule New Zealand, then New Zealanders should all have a say in the election of the ruling body. Messrs Walsh and Baxter may then find the extent of their popularity in this country. Workers are tired of being ruled by extremists. —Yours, etc..
