FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A ridge of high pressure is over the North Island and a low-pressure trough is moving north-eastwards over the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura coast.—Moderate southerly winds, tending easterly; weather overcast, with occasional rain, mainly light; temperatures cool. Outlook: occasional showers. West Coast and Nelson.—Moderate northerly to easterly winds predominating; weather cloudy, with rain at times; temperatures moderate. Outlook: mainly cloudy, with some scattered showers. Marlborough, except the Kaikoura coast.—Moderate to fresh north-westerly winds, turning southerly in the afternoon; cloudy, with occasional rain developing; temperatures becoming cooler.
