Fremantle Port Strike Ends
PERTH, Feb. 9. The dockers’ strike at Fremantle ended today and loading operations were begun immediately on 16 of the 22 ships lying idle in port. The strike, which began a fortnight ago, was settled after a conference of the disputing parties members of the Waterside Workers' Federation and the employers. The strike paralysed all activity on the Fremantle waterfront, and caused food shortages and economic upsets throughout Western Australia. The terms of settlement provide for another conference of the parties concerned, this time before the Commonwealth Conciliation Commissioner, Mr Justice Ashburner.
