Seven Dead In Eastern Areas
NEW YORK, February 9. A blizzard hit eastern areas of the United States today. Up to two feet of snow fell in northern Virginia, and hundreds of schools remained closed. Traffic was paralysed. The town of Front Royal, in Vermont declared a state of emergency after 16 inches of snow had fallen. At least seven deaths were attributed to the storm. Eight inches of snow knocked out power and telephone service to towns in Nortl Carolina’s mountain counties. in New York City, thousands of cars were still buried on streets and roads under huge drifts coated with icy drizzle. Commuter trains were jammed.
