MOUTH-TO-MOUTH RESPIRATION
Demonstrations In Cathedral Square Public demonstrations of the new expired air methods of artificial resuscitation, which have been adopted by lifesaving bodies throughout New Zealand, will be given by members of the Canterbury Surf Life-Saving Association on Friday in conjunction with the association’s annual street day appeal. Permission has been granted by Christchurch City Council authorities for the demonstrations to be given in Cathedral square outside the Government Tourist Bureau. According to the association’s publicity officer (Mr L. J. Tointon), demonstrations will be given between 12 noon and 2 pun. on the deck of a parked truck. Both the mouth-to-mouth and the mouth-to-nose methods will be demonstrated by two volunteer surfers. The Syl-vester-Brosch method will also probably be demonstrated. This method is now regarded as the most effective manual method, provided the victim’s head is kept fully tilted. It has the advantage that a single rescuer can keep the airway open and still be able to see the face and mouth. The demonstrations will be organised by the Canterbury Surf Life-Saving Association’s chief instructor (Mr J. A. Lee).
