Entertainment At Conference
Mrs L. C. Webb, formerly Miss Caroline West-Watson of Christchurch, was now president of the Canberra area group of the Pan Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association and was one of the hostesses at the association’s recent international conference in Canberra, said Miss Mary McLean yesterday. While in Canberra as a New Zealand delegate to the conference. Mis« McLean also met Mrs Otto Frankel, formerly Miss Margaret Anderson, of Christchurch, who was in charge of an exhibition of Pacific and South-east Asian art Both women entertained New Zealand delegates in their homes when the conference was not in session.
“The High Commissioner for New Zealand at Canberra (Mr F. Jones) was also most generous in his hospitality and helpfulness to the New Zealand delegates," she said. Miss McLean was in Canberra when the New Year Honours were announced and she received many warm congratulations on her award of an M.B.E.
“I felt very humble about receiving the award, but it was wonderful to find so many kind messages waiting for me when I arrived home from Australia on Saturday evening,” jhe said.
