TELEPHONE CABLE
Orders Placed For Construction. (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MONTREAL, Jan. 23. Orders worth 50,400,000 dollars have been placed for the construction of the world’s longest telephone cable, it was announced today, Canadian Press reported. The cable, under the Pacific Ocean, will be 8700 nautical miles long. It will link Canada, New Zealand and Australia and will form the second leg of the Commonwealth's round - the - world cable. The first leg, between Canada and the United Kingdom, will be finished this year.
