LONDON, Jan. 23. African political leaders announced in London today that they were studying plans to cut off the supply of African labour for South Africa’s gold mines as part of their intensified anti - apartheid campaign. Most of the 360,000 Africans who keep the gold mines running come from outside South Africa. Details of their campaign were given at a press conference called by the South Africa-United Front —an organisation composed of African and South African Indian nationalist groups. Mr Peter Molotsi, one of the leaders, said the United Front wanted South Africa excluded from the Commonwealth, and added: “This is the last chance we are giving to the world for a peaceful solution of the South African problem.” Against Segregation
The United Front leaders said the campaign was against racial segregation and white domination in South Africa. Their aims include: Discouragement of foreign capital investment in South Africa. Foreign investors should know that their support for the government of Dr. Verwoerd “will be regarded as an unfriendly act by the nonwhite people of South
Africa.” The sending of a delegation to India, Pakistan, Ceylon and Malaya to secure support in Asia for barring South Africa from the Commonwealth. Approaches with the same aim to the Government, political organisations and people in the other Commonwealth countries including Ghana and Nigeria.
A statement issued today said “the South African sit-
uation has now ceased to be one that can be settled by gentle persuasion, a change of heart or by condemnation of apartheid, however strongly expressed. “It should be seen for what it is: A serious threat to peace and security, calling for forceful and resolute measures as a matter of urgency."
