OFFICIALS AT CARNIVALS
Examinations Proposed Authority for the championships committee to complete details of the proposed examinations lor national carnival officials was given by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimmrng Association at its meeting last evening Information on how to organise the examinations had been received from Australia and Great Britain said the chairman (Mr A J Donaldson). In Australia, no person was permitted to officiate at a carnival unless he had passed his examinations, he emphasised. There Tiad been a 15 per cent. Increase in entries for the New Zealand swimming championships to be held at Tauranga from February 8 to February 11. Mr Donaldson said. Every swimming centre in New Zealand would be represented It would be the first time that that had occurred as far as he knew Without committing itself to anything definite, the council agreed that it would support synchronised swimming, a type of water ballet, if the interest was forthcoming. Proposals to have synchronised swimming adopted as a sport in New Zealand have been put before members of the Association by Miss S. Batchelor (Auckland). Mr Donaldson said that if a tbur of synchronised swimmers from Auckland would tour the Dominion. the council would probably be able to supply the initial finunr*
